Evaluation of Sedimatic-100 Automated System using Vacuum Aspiration Tube for the Mea surement of Erytherocyte Sedimentation Rate

Abstract
The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is the most frequently used laboratory test for the detection of acute phase inflammatory response. The vacuum aspiration tube which contains anticoagulant diluent for the measurement of ESR reduces the
biohazard
risk to laboratory staff, and the Sedimatic-100 automated system offers automated mixing of diluted blood and automated reading of the end point after 30 min or 60 min. we compared the Sedimatic-100 system using two types of vacuum aspiration
tube,
ESrT-100 and Seditainer, with the modified Westergren ESR method of the International Committee for Standardization in Haematology (ICSH) for 552 patients. both 60 min and 30 min Sedimatic-100 system showed close correlation (r=0.933 and 0.938)
with the
modified Westergren method. There were no significant differences between the results of ESrT-100 and Seditainer tube(p>0.05). The Sedimatic-100 system using vacuum aspiration tube showed acceptable reproducibility (CVs; 0% and 2.5% for different
two
values of ESR) and linearity (Y=x-4.7, r=0.981, P<0.0001). the Sedimatic-100 system using vacuum aspiration tube seems to be safe, simple, rapid, ad standardized method for measuring ESR.
